Adding Some Wooden Details

Dec2nd2015

I just received an order I placed long ago for some wooden appliqués for the headers on the windows in the house! It was a long, long process as I accidentally sent to the wrong address and they were returned, rerouted and then remailed….omg I had to pay a fortune to get them here, but I’m so relieved they arrived.

The large one is going on the fireplace and the others over the windows in the living room and dining room. All the casings and trims are now ready….we painstakingly raised the grain, applied a combination of stain and paint finish and a clear topcoat and they look sooooo incredible! The appliqués will get the same finish and blend right in…at least that’s the plan 🙂 Will post photos of the finished areas once they are done which should be in a few weeks.

Craft Room Progress

Jul15th2015

Today I made some progress on my craft room development by creating some new drawers for the storage area. We salvaged the vanities from the original house and placed them in the loft where the craft space exists, but the drawers were kind of boring and lifeless. The add some excitement, I put two coats of dark brown on the base of the drawers and then covered with a creamy topcoat, then sanded through. For a fun, slightly industrial look which I thought would be a nice departure, but complimentary to the interior shabby chic theme, I found these old faucet handles at a salvage shop and fashioned them into pulls for the drawers! They look really great! After the boxes are attached to the wall and the toe kick and side panels are installed, I can finish the entire piece. We also salvaged a 100 year old laminate beam from Vancouver to make the top surface which I will show when it’s finished! Stay tuned 🙂

Sunroom Progress

May28th2015

I’m so excited….beyond words, to see the sunroom come together! We’ve had several people over and word is getting around about our project. Local designers, home builders and other business people have dropped in to see first hand what we are doing and how it is being done. The ceiling and beams in the loft and sunroom are the highlight right now. A collaboration between myself and Rick Rempel (our design/artist extraordinare) came up with a “recipe” for the treatment and finishing steps to make a truly beautiful old world finish. We have a winning team! Of course, shortly after we were like little kids because we couldn’t wait to put the lighting up and see the effect!
